Are you a teenager looking to make some extra cash? Maybe you want to save up for a new device, experience, or better yet, your future. Whatever the reason, online jobs for teens can be a great way to earn money from the comfort of your own home.

With the rise of technology and the internet, there are now numerous opportunities for teenagers to find online work. I have first-hand experience doing many of the suggestions I’m about to share with you below.

Also, if you’re a teen reading this, I applaud you for even thinking of making your own money!

This tells me you’re a go-getter, who isn’t afraid to take initiative. With this trait, you will undoubtedly achieve great success in life.

Can A Teenager Make Money Online?

Absolutely! Earning money online is a great way for individuals of all ages, including teenagers, to supplement their income and save up for the future. Whether it’s through online surveys, freelancing, reselling, or even playing games, there are numerous opportunities for teenagers to earn money online.

Despite the abundance of online opportunities for teenagers, it’s important to remember that some jobs may have age limits, or require a work permit and parental consent. If you’re under 18 years old, talk to your parent or guardian first to discuss your intentions of making extra money.

Additionally, it’s important for teens to have access to the necessary tools, such as a reliable internet connection, a device, and any required software or online courses.

Advice for Teens Looking for Online Jobs

First and foremost, don’t rush into anything, and do your research.

There are plenty of online job opportunities out there, but not all of them are legit or suitable for teens. Make sure to always check the minimum age requirements. This will ensure that you are not wasting your time on jobs that won’t hire you because of your age.

When looking for online jobs, it’s extremely important to be vigilant to avoid scams. Unfortunately, there are people and websites out there that will try to take advantage of job seekers.

Red flags teens should look out for regarding online jobs:

  • jobs that promise quick and easy money
  • asks for your personal financial information
  • requires you to pay them a fee upfront
  • has no employment contract or terms

Always trust your instincts and if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Networking is key in the world of online jobs. Connect with your family, friends, teachers, and other professionals in your desired field to let them know you’re looking for a way to make extra money. By making connections and building relationships, you may uncover hidden job opportunities.

Lastly, make sure you fully understand the job requirements before committing. Some jobs have specific time commitments or require certain skills or equipment. Additionally, be sure to clarify the payment structure and how often you will be paid. This will prevent any misunderstandings or surprises down the line.

10. Online Reselling

Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Right? You’d be surprised how many of these ‘treasures’ are hidden in the back corner of your closet. I’ve had great experiences selling clothes and shoes on apps like Poshmark and Depop. I’ve also sold household items and old furniture locally on OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace.

I once sold a floor lamp (that I got for free and almost tossed) for $15! Not life-changing money, but still better than nothing.

Beyond your home, you can also find items at thrift stores or yard sales to flip online.

When meeting up with buyers in person, always be careful and only accept cash payments to avoid being scammed.

Average Pay: Varies

11. Playing Video Games

Yes, contrary to what your parents may believe, you can really play games online for money!

If you don’t mind being in front of the camera and are pretty good at gaming (of course), the most lucrative way is to become a live streamer on Twitch. You’ll need to build up an audience and be consistent before you start making any money. But the earning potential is endless once you gain sponsorships and brand deals. Other ways to make money are video game testing and online tournaments.

Average Pay: $50-400+/month

12. Testing Websites and Apps

Website and app developers are always looking for users to test their products for feedback and detect any bugs before launching to the general public. If you’re tech-savvy, you can make extra money being one of their testers. The best places to find opportunities for testing websites or apps are User Testing, UTest, and UserPeek.

Average Pay: $4-120 per test

13. Be an Influencer

If you enjoy being the center of attention and feel like you can inspire others easily then becoming an influencer can be quite lucrative. You’ll first need to decide on a niche and create a following on social media. You don’t need hundreds of thousands of followers before you can start, just an engaged audience of 1,000 or more is enough to get the attention of smaller brands and businesses for paid partnerships. Of course, the more followers you have the higher you can negotiate contracts.

Average Pay: $20-150+/hour

14. Social Media Manager

Are you a social media whiz and great at building community? Many small businesses need help managing their social media presence. If you’re knowledgeable about popular platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok, you can offer your services as a social media manager. 15. Start a Podcast

It’s very possible for teens to create a podcast and make money from it! You can freely express your unique opinions and interests, the topics are endless. 16. Create and Sell Custom Products Online

Interested in creating and selling custom products online? With the help of modern technology and the internet, teens can create unique, one-of-a-kind items that they can then sell to customers around the world. Think digital downloads, t-shirts, hats, notebooks, mugs, art and so much more. The best site to find inspiration and sell your crafts is undoubtedly, Etsy. 17. User Generated Content (UGC) Creator

User Generated Content (UGC) is a relatively new concept. UCG creators make content such as videos, images, reviews, and more for brands to share on their social channels for their target audience. This content should provide their audience with valuable information while also being aesthetically pleasing. It may sound similar to an influencer but you don’t need any following at all to get started. All you need is to prove you can make compelling content that matches a brand’s style. You can start creating a portfolio with products you already own and reach out to brands. Some popular niches are skincare, beauty, and wellness.

Average Pay: $100-1000+/month

18. Blogging

Obviously, I’m a bit biased here. But blogging can be very lucrative! Some well-established bloggers earn $20,000+ a month. Of course, it will take time to get there but once you’ve built an audience you can get into affiliate marketing and ad networks. This will allow you to earn a commission for promoting other businesses’ products or services and driving sales through your unique referral link. There is a low barrier to entry for blogging and start-up costs are relatively inexpensive. You’ll need to decide on a niche, buy a domain, and get web hosting. From there you can start posting and scaling your blogging business.

Average Pay: $100-2,000+/month

Offline Jobs For Teens

Although there are many online opportunities for teens to make money, I have included some great jobs that can be done in person.

1. Pet Sit Or Dog Walk

Are you an animal lover or have prior experience taking care of your family pet? For teenagers, pet sitting and dog walking can be a great option! This type of work offers flexible hours, allowing you to set your own schedule and can easily fit around your school schedule. Pet owners who work all day or travel are always looking for extra help to take care of their fur babies while they’re away. This can include walking dogs, feeding pets, or letting them temporarily stay with you. You start offering your services to family, friends, and neighbors. If you’re over 18 years old, you can sign up for Rover and create a profile to find more clients.

Average Pay: $20-50/hour

2. Nanny or Babysit

Being a nanny or babysitter as a teen can be a great way to make money and gain experience. Nannying and babysitting allow you to work flexible hours that fit around your school schedule. I was a nanny as a teen and during college and can vouch it was a great gig! Getting paid to hang out with kids, eat snacks, and watch movies is something I miss doing.

3. Yard Work

Yard work can be an excellent way for teens to make extra cash. If you live in a suburban area, it’s likely that you may have neighbors who need help with mowing their lawns, trimming bushes, and other outdoor tasks. How to Get Paid Online

You’ll want to ensure you first set up a banking account at a financial institution so you can collect direct deposits online. If you’re under 18 years old, you may need a parent or guardian to consent to your account opening.

I also suggest creating a PayPal account as some of the websites mentioned in this post only pay via that platform.
